holiday monday this year saw the annual inter-club game
changed from the usual over-30's v the under 30's to a more
balanced "captain's select" 40 over game. We all arrived
at the ground nice and early to eat a lovely lunch prepared
by team Bendy, whilst skippers Vin and Al set about
splitting us into two teams. I'm not sure who won the toss
but Vin and vice captain Sam's 'sunday' team went into bat
first, Al and Matt's 'saturday' boys took to the field.
Bernie dropped Johnny Reece
on 30 and no doubt regretted this later as he went on to get a brilliant 113 not out. Dazzler Hastain finished off the innings with a quick-fire 65 taking
us 'sunday's' onto 258 for 4 at tea.

It
became apparent after tea that all the regular wicket
keepers were on the 'saturday' team so I bravely and
unselfishly offered to get the gloves on (the fact that we
had 6 better bowlers and I'd eaten too much of Alison's
lovely homemade cake to run around had absolutely no bearing
on this whatsoever). Still following my duck I continued to
do my bit for the 'saturdays' by letting past 20 byes.
Bernie and Al made a magnificent 100+ run opening
partnership and KJ also got in the runs. Although all three
of them managed to avoid a jug, all going out in the
forties. Dazzler rapped it up again with 3 wickets off his 2
overs.
